A week to give your writing shape, voice, and momentum

You may already have notebooks full of fragments, a life experience you want to put into words, or the persistent feeling that there is something important you are meant to write. This workshop is designed to help you move from private material and half-started pages into stronger, more crafted work.

Each morning is structured and purposeful. We will review work, explore common writing challenges, and use carefully chosen exercises to develop voice, shape, and narrative energy. The atmosphere is warm and encouraging, but also serious about craft.

This workshop is for you if…

  • You want to establish a regular writing practice.

  • You have personal experiences you want to shape into stronger stories, essays, or memoir writing.

  • You have started writing but need structure, accountability, and momentum.

  • You are moving toward publication and want to deepen your craft.

  • You want to spend time with a small group of writers in an atmosphere that is thoughtful, generous, and focused.

Writers at any level are welcome. You do not need to be published. You only need a willingness to write, reflect, and engage.

Three evening activities across the week, including an art and wine evening and a shared group dinner.

Meet Katie

Katie Annice Carr is the author of two narrative non-fiction books “Moderate Becoming Good Later” (Summersdale – Hachette 2023) and “Thundery at Times” (Summersdale – Hachette 2026). She is also an experienced educator, coach and facilitator known for creating thoughtful, well-structured learning spaces. In this workshop, she brings that same depth, clarity, and warmth to the writing process, helping participants shape lived experience into work that feels more crafted, more confident, and more alive on the page.

Uniting her work as an executive and life coach with her writing and teaching experience, she encourages deep reflection on lived experience, and careful creative crafting of personal stories.

Her approach is encouraging but rigorous. Writers are supported, challenged, and invited to take their work seriously in a small group setting designed for trust, reflection, and progress.

Frequently asked questions

No, accommodation is not included but there are some great inexpensive hotels nearby and lots of Airbnb options available. October is a great time because things tend to be cheaper but the weather is (usually) still nice. We recommend Casual Colors Hotel which is just around the corner from the studio, but there are many more options.

The workshop will take place in my studio located at Calle de Loreto 10, 08029 Barcelona in the Les Corts area of the city. It is within easy reach of the rest of the city so you could choose to stay near here or in the centre of town.

The workshop is open to people at different stages in their writing journey. You need to be willing to work on your writing and share it with the group in the workshops. It is not expected to be polished at this stage, but our approach is not journaling but creating prose intended to communicate with and inspire others.

We know that a lot of the best fiction is based on lived experience even if it is not reflected as such in its final iteration. Fiction writers will find the workshop will help them reflect their experiences and express them in literary form. Elements of narrative non-fiction such as characterisation, sense of place, structure and framing emotional journey mapping are applicable to fiction.

Yes, you do not have to have a work in progress to attend. Our hope is that you leave feeling inspired to start one, whether that is a full memoir, a short story or an essay.

Yes. The structured workshop runs from 9am to 1pm after which you are free to do whatever you like. Your partner is also welcome to join the optional evening events you just need to let us know in time to book a place, we will let you know if an additional cost is involved.

If you have been waiting for the right week to take your writing seriously, this could be it.

Come to Barcelona with your notes, fragments, memories, and half-formed ideas. Leave with stronger work, clearer direction, and a writing practice that holds.
